Expository
writing is a valuable
venue to provide documented, sequential information about science
topics.
We, as creative writing/technology enthusiasts, must learn to collect
and
record information visually and in written form, providing graphic
explanation
where necessary. We must discern when graphics, charts, etc. are
needed for clarification, and identify the most useful type of chart or
graphic needed for clarification of a specific concept.
Task: Select a
specific ocean food chain
on which you'd like to report. Gather information about the particular
ocean food chain by accessing the web sites listed below. Create a
slide
show presentation which clearly depicts your specific ocean food chain.
Documentation in written and/or graph form must be researched and
clearly
stated.
Resources: You will use the following websites to research the topic and create written and graphic expositions. http://www.mos.org/oceans/life/webs.html
Process: 1.)
Access the websites
above by clicking on the links.
Learning Advice: Use a
concept map or a graphic organizer
to organize all supportive information before writing your sequential
exposition.
Use ClarisWorks Draw or any other presentation format to construct your
expository report. Add interesting graphics, charts, and/or
diagrams
to provide visual explanation of concepts. For your final presentation
you will share your slide show with the class.
Conclusion: The study
of Ocean Food Webs is
valuable because it provides information about the delicate balance of
nature in the sea. This lesson was designed to provide
information
about an issue which concerns environmentalists whose goal it is to
preserve
this balance of nature, preventing the overpopulation of species and
preventing
the extinction of species. This WebQuest was prepared to provide
experience
researching topics and locating specific information using the World
Wide
Web.
